Travel Weekly columnist Maureen Hill is fronting a new pressure group to urge the government to do more to fight travel agency fraud.
The Dorset-based Travel Angels consultant was recently targeted by fraudsters using a stolen credit card. She alerted her local police, but was frustrated that not enough was done to catch the culprits.
When Maureen wrote about her frustration in her column in Travel Weekly, other agents got in touch to express the same concerns. Now, backed by PROFiT (the travel industry anti-fraud group), she has started a group on the travelhub, Travel Weekly‘s new networking site, which agents can join to support her fight.
Called ‘Maureen’s Fight Against Fraud’, the aim is to gather support from fellow agents and then put Maureen’s concerns, given extra weight by the backing from the group, to the government.
She said: “With your support on the travelhub I am determined to get an interview with a government minister so that I can voice our concerns and raise some action.”
