Factfile: To the Movies
Hollywood and Highland: the first phase of a $430m complex of movie theatres, nightclubs, restaurants and shops opens in the heart of Hollywood next summer. Covering 640,000sq ft and located next to the famous Mann’s Chinese Theatre, it will also be the new home of the Oscars Academy Awards. In addition, there will be a four-screen, 2,000-seat Multiplex theatre. The whole complex will be completed in 2001 and linked to downtown LA by a new Metrorail subway station.
Hollywood Walk of Fame: more than 2,000 marble-and-bronze stars inlaid in the sidewalk near Mann’s Theatre commemorating celebrities of film, theatre and the recording industry.
Hollywood Entertainment Museum: opened in 1996 in the Galaxy Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, it traces the history of the entertainment industry.
El Capitan Theatre: premiered the film Citizen Kane and now shows first releases of Disney movies.
Egyptian Theatre: Holly-wood’s first movie theatre, built in 1922.
Capitol Records Tower: is designed as a stack of records topped by a stylus.
Hollywood Studio Museum: includes exhibits of early film production and costumes.
