ABTA issues bed banks guidance for agents

ABTA has issued advice for travel agent members concerning contractual and financial protection issues when booking through bed banks.

The advice is being released as an increasing number of agents revert to accommodation-only suppliers for product because of the growth in popularity of dynamic packaging.

The association urges agents to ensure clients know exactly who their contracts are with and what financial protection they are entitled to. Chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “Bed banks have opened up new sales opportunities for ABTA members and have been one of the great success stories of recent years.

“However, it is essential that ABTA members are fully aware of the legal and financial implications when they are using bed banks so that they can properly inform their customers and avoid potential unpleasant surprises for both customers and members.”

The advice is being released as part of the business support manual, which is available in the members’ section of abta.com.
