Adventure tour operator, Exodus Travels has acquired self-guided holiday specialist and sister company Headwater Holidays.
The deal went through on October 1, with Exodus citing “huge potential for growth within the self-guided market”.
Headwater Holidays, founded in 1985, operates self-guided trips, predominantly to European destinations. Itineraries are for all levels of fitness, with walking, cycling, winter cross-country skiing and activity holidays available.
Both Exodus Travels and Headwater are Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) members and part of the Travelopia group, which has a collection of specialist travel brands offering travel styles from safaris to sailing.
Sam Seward, managing director of Exodus Travels, said: “Demand for self-guided holidays has surged over the last year with enquiries up over 25% year on year. The Headwater team are experts in marrying the right walking and cycling routes with beautiful boutique hotels and fantastic dining experiences. Having spent some time with the regional teams in Portugal and France I’ve been incredibly impressed with the level of service and expertise on display.
“We believe that the extended range of self-guided trips will enable travellers to have even more freedom to choose an adventure that perfectly suits them. The Headwater trips perfectly compliment the current Exodus self-guided range, offering a variety of destinations to explore at a more relaxed pace, allowing travellers to get even closer to the real, more local side of their destination of choice.”
