Costa Cruises has cut single supplements by up to 50% for cruises taken after December 1.
The move, designed to encourage more solo travellers on Costa ships, means singles will pay supplements from 30%. At the moment they pay a flat 80% extra.
The change brings the lead-in price for a seven-night cruise in the Arabian Gulf on Costa Luminosa in March 2010 for a single traveller in a double cabin down to £700 cruise-only, while seven nights in the Eastern Mediterranean on Costa Pacifica start at £836 cruise-only.
Costa managing director Marco Rosa said cruising is an increasingly popular choice for solo travellers because it’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people and there are a lot of activities to choose from.
Costa Luminosa has a 4D cinema, golf simulator and outdoor putting green; Costa Pacifica has a recording studio where guests can cut their own CDs. Both ships also feature a Grand Prix driving simulator, used to train Formula 1 drivers.
