Hundreds could lose holidays as Scottish travel agency fails

Hundreds of holidaymakers in Scotland are worried they may have lost their bookings after the collapse of Cambuslang Travel, which ceased trading last week.

Frustrated holidaymakers have been phoning the company and visiting the two retail shops in Cambuslang and East Kilbride with no success. No liquidators have yet been appointed.

Customers who booked overseas dynamic packages with the agency may not necessarily be covered since the company did not hold its own ATOL. Cambuslang Travel was a member of the Advantage consortium, but was not covered by its group ATOL.

There were 1,000 forward bookings held by the company, 300 of which were UK theatre trip packages put together by Cambuslang Travel. Customers have already received their theatre tickets but will have to make a claim for their accommodation.

A spokeswoman for ABTA said customers should contact the association or their credit-card provider.

The firm employed 25 staff, some of whom had worked at the company for many years.

One former staff member, who did not wish to be named, said: “Customers are coming up to me in the shopping centre and asking me what has happened to their holiday. I don’t know what to tell them.”
