Recession’s impact to be debated at this year’s World Travel Market

Financial experts and senior travel executives will debate the impact of the recession on the industry next year in the rebranded session ‘World Travel Market Vision – the Global Economic Forum’ at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM).

The panel, chaired by former BBC journalist and economics expert Peter Hobday, includes Nick Marks, founder of wellbeing centre the New Economics Foundation, Cox and Kings executive director Peter Kerkar, aviation expert John Strickland, P&O managing director Carol Marlow, and United Nations World Tourism Organization secretary-general Taleb Rifai.

The debate will focus on the best business strategies for next year according to top industry players such as British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh, TUI Travel chief executive Peter Long, and Carnival UK chief executive David Dingle.

WTM exhibition director Craig Moyes said: “The line-up of industry and economic experts will give delegates innovative business ideas for 2010 and beyond.

“Experts agree that travel and tourism will increase again next year, just as it has previously.

“It will not be straightforward, but those companies that have survived the downturn are robust and flexible. They should, therefore, be in a good position to capitalise on a more promising future.”

The WTM Vision – The Global Economic Forum session takes place at ExCeL on Thursday November 12 (Platinum Suite 4, 11am-1pm).

Registration fees are £70 before September 18; £95 before November 6; and £115 on the door.

All delegates will receive a free DVD of the industry experts’ opinions and business strategies for the future.
