Comment: Leger looks ahead to 2019

Ashley Dellow, head of retail sales, Leger Holidays

At Leger Holidays, we appreciate that the over 50’s market want to make the most out of their holidays and that means our passengers want that little bit more from one of our coach holidays, and 2019 is proving no different.

With so many incredible coach holidays and escorted tours on offer throughout the touring industry, it’s important for us to keep ahead of the curve and continuously bring something new to the table, not only for our customers but for travel agents, too.

That’s why, over the coming year, we will continue to focus on adding more unique experiences to our extensive collection of tours.

I’m expecting the over 50’s market to be just as driven by the experiences they will encounter on an escorted tour, as they would be by the destinations they’d visit. It’s more about exciting itineraries, unique excursions and, overall, a great value-for-money experience.

2019 will see the first of our Experience More tours departing into the continent, and with fascinating experiences to uncover on these brand new tours, they’re already proving popular.

Whether it’s a tortellini master class, a pizza making experience or even Prosecco tasting in Italy, flamenco shows in Spain, incredible rail journeys and fascinating museum experiences, we’re expecting these tours to really fly off the shelf when January’s peak booking period comes around.

And, it’s true what they say, that 50 is the new 30, and we’re finding that the adventurous streak of the over 50’s is still driving their holiday habits.

With many still looking to tick those once-in-a-lifetime destinations off their bucket lists, we’re expecting a strong year for our worldwide programme, with the likes of India, Australia, Japan and the USA selling well, we’ve also recently introduced our new escorted tour to Sri Lanka.

The fascinating south Asian country offers a wealth of experiences from breathtaking rail journeys through stunning tea plantations to witnessing the incredible work at the Pinnawalla Elephant Orphanage.

Leger now offers 18 worldwide tours to 8 far-flung destinations, departing throughout 2019 and 2020, there’s plenty to offer your clients looking for a long haul adventure.

And, last but not least, we can’t ignore the fact that the singles holiday market is currently booming! Turning over a new leaf, the solo travel concept is no longer something reserved for under 30’s taking a gap year. In fact, it’s one of the over 50’s hottest travel trends.

It’s the holiday without compromise, where clients can choose exactly what they’d like to do, and have a fantastic time doing it. Within a group of like-minded individuals, it’s safe, it’s fun and it’s invigorating.

Plus, having the benefit of no single supplement charges and allowing clients sole use of their own room, our Single Traveller holidays offer the perfect getaway for anyone looking to take that first step into solo travel.

We’re looking forward to an exciting year, welcoming your many clients on board one of our holidays, and personally, I’m looking forward to meeting more of you through the ATAS conferences throughout 2019.
