More than 450 agents have signed up to Expedia’s Travel Agencies Affiliate Programme (TAAP) since it launched in October 2008.
The scheme allows agents to access and book Expedia’s inventory through a dedicated portal. Agents can offer the same prices as the consumer-facing site and receive commission on bookings.
This month, the online travel agency has made stand-alone flights available for the first time, with commission on long-haul flights only. Commission payments will now be paid monthly, not quarterly.
Bookings for dynamic packages account for 40% of all TAAP sales in the UK, with favourite destinations this summer including the US, Italy and the UK.
Director for travel agent distribution Diego Pedrani said: “The TAAP programme continues to grow in popularity, with the number of new sign-ups climbing every week.
“UK travel agents are really embracing the initiative, with a very high purchase frequency compared with other European markets, driven by size of agencies here, and their familiarity with the web.”
In April, Expedia hoped the programme would attract 1,000 agents by the end of the year.
The scheme was launched in 2002 in Italy and now has 5,400 members worldwide.
