Q: How do I get to the Yukon?
The best route is a 2hr flight from Vancouver, either on Canadian Airlines, which has same-day connections from London, or on Canada 3000.
Q: What is the weather like?
From early June to mid-August, it is hot and dry with temperatures reaching 30C. Winters are cold and dry though and can get down to -35C.
Q: What are the hotels like?
The Yukon may be remote but it has five-star resorts and luxury log cabins, fly-in fishing resorts and even a deluxe tented camp on top of a glacier. Whitehorse and Dawson City have many good hotels and bed and breakfasts.
Q: Being so remote, is the Yukon expensive?
The Yukon is actually less expensive than other place in Canada as there is no provincial sales tax. Visitors just pay a goods and service tax of 7% which, in some cases, can be claimed back.
Q: What about restaurants and nightlife?
There are some excellent restaurants throughout the Yukon, especially in Whitehorse and Dawson City. Bars stay open until 3am – you leave in daylight.
Q: What are the roads like?
All major highways are government maintained, which means that hire vehicles and motorhomes can be driven on them without a problem. Traffic is usually at a minimum.
