WTM 2009 preview: Latin America exhibitors

At the PromPeru stand LA3000, visitors can sample Peruvian cocktails and canapés while taking a look at an exhibition of rural and community photographs.

Those who would like to learn more about the destination should head for Room 14 in the South Gallery at 11am on Tuesday November 10, where experts including Wanderlust editor Dan Linstead, Responsible Travel chief executive Justin Francis and author of the Footprint guide to Peru Ben Box will be speaking on new developments and initiatives.

Turismo Chile will be promoting the destination’s new website, thisischile.cl, on stand LA4000. Tourist numbers to Chile are increasing year on year, and stand visitors will be able to learn about specialist tour operators and new hotels, including the Hotel W Santiago, the brand’s first South American property; the country’s first surf lodge, Surazo Lodge; and the new five-star hotel in the Chilean Lake District, the Cumbres Patagonicas.

Exhibiting for the first time is Latincoming, an incoming alliance representing agencies from Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Visitors to stand LA3700 will discover new product innovations designed to build on the improving image of Latin America in the British market.

At stand LA1000 the Mexico Tourism Board will be continuing its work to push the destination’s comeback after the swine flu outbreak.

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau will be celebrating at stand LA1190, after Cancun received the Mexico and Central America’s Leading Destination award at the annual World Travel Awards. It will be promoting next February’s Mayakoba Golf Classic, plus the five new golf courses set to open in the next year, and Xplor, an underground adventure park one hour from Cancun, with ziplines, amphibious vehicles and rafting.

After the announcement earlier this month that Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympic Games, there will be even more excitement than usual at LA6000, the stand the Brazilian Tourism Board will share with a whole range of partners, from those selling well known highlights such as the Amazon, Iguaçu Falls and Rio to up-and-coming areas such as Bahia.
