New York is firmly at the top of the list for Valentine’s Day breaks, but Mexico is becoming more popular with loved-up couples, says Funway Holidays.
Booking figures show that New York is the most popular destination for the week commencing February 11, and the city has been Funway’s number-one Valentine’s getaway for the past 25 years.
Las Vegas and Orlando share second place, overtaking Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in third place.
However, Funway’s new destination of Puerto Vallarta is in fourth place and it is the first time that Mexico’s Pacific Coast has featured in the top five.
In fifth place on this year’s Funway ‘Valentine love list’ is Barbados.
Malcolm Davies, product destination manager for Funway Holidays, said: “With Valentine’s Day falling midweek this year, our forward bookings indicate that couples are not only booking short-haul mini breaks but combining their February 14 celebrations with a more memorable week-long escape, especially in Mexico.
“Mexico has proven to be a strong market, with Funway’s bookings up 10% year-on-year.”
The operator has a joint marketing partnership with AMResorts, which has helped boost demand, he added.
AMResorts is expanding in Mexico with the addition of the all-inclusive Now Natura Riviera Cancun (pictured), which will open in November 2019.
The chain will open other all-inclusive resorts at Dreams Macao Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Secrets St Martin Resort & Spa, in the French Caribbean.
Funway is offering seven nights at the Now Natura Riviera Cancun, from £1,645 per person, departing from London with British Airways on December 2, based on two adults sharing.
