Apprenticeship badge launched for employers

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) has launched a badge for businesses to display on their websites and stationery to let consumers know they employ apprentices.

The badge was developed in response to NAS-commissioned research by YouGov that found more than 80% of consumers are more likely to use a business if it employs apprentices, and 64% would use a register to help them find businesses that use apprentices.

The research also discovered 94% of people think it is important companies support young people by taking on apprentices in the recession.

The badge is supported by the British Chambers of Commerce and may be used by all employers who take on apprentices. It can be downloaded at apprenticeships.org.uk by clicking on ‘Employers’ then ‘Employers’ Badge’.

Business that use the badge on their website must inform NAS, which will then add the employer’s details to the apprenticeships website and employer register.

Consumers can report incorrect use of the badge by contacting the NAS.

Commenting on the launch of the scheme Iain Wright, parliamentary under-secretary of state for 14-19 reform and apprenticeships, said: “We already know some of the real business benefits apprentices can bring to the organisations they work for.

“It’s encouraging to see consumers are asking for apprentices and choosing to use a business that supports young people over one that doesn’t. This consumer choice gives employers another reason to hire apprentices.”

Employers who want to get involved in apprenticeships should call 0800 015 0600.
