Nominations are now being accepted for the first Penny Akam Award, which will be presented at the 2010 Globe Travel Awards on January 19. The award is open to anyone working in the travel industry and seeks to reward an unsung hero who goes above and beyond the call of duty. Anyone wishing to nominate a colleague can find an entry form here and must do so by December 16. Any entries will need to include examples of just how the nominee demonstrated exceptional levels of dedication, passion and commitment. TWgroup chief executive Simon Ferguson said: “There are many unsung heroes in the travel industry and recognising someone who has gone that extra mile is absolutely in keeping with Penny’s memory. “It could be an individual who does a lot of charity work or who has exceeded expectations in serving their company or customers.” The Penny Akam Award was launched following Penny’s death from cancer in December 2008. In her 20 years at Travel Weekly, Penny worked tirelessly to make the Globe Travel Awards the highly successful event it is today.
