Onyx group says there is ‘demand for serviced apartments’

The Onyx Hospitality Group has said it is “seeing increased demand for serviced apartments”, as it announces it will open a property in Australia, the Shama Luxe Melbourne Central.

The group has multiple Shama-brand properties being developed across Malaysia and China and it will open its Melbourne property towards the end of 2019 with the exact date to be confirmed.

Debrah Pascoe, executive vice president of commercial for the group said: “Where we are, we feel this is the right time to go into Australia. In city locations we are seeing increased demand for serviced apartments. People want flexibility particularly when travelling with children and they want the services the can access with hotels.”

The Shama Luxe Melbourne will comprise 252 units with in the Aurora Melbourne Central development, Melbourne’s second-tallest building and the third tallest building in Australia. Apartments will be located on level 10 to 42 with a street level entrance, restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and fitness centre.

Travel agents will earn commission on bookings to the Melbourne property as they would for all Shama and Shama Luxe properties.
