Star Clippers is pulling out of Antigua 10 days after one of its passengers was murdered on the island.
The 228-passenger Royal Clipper had been due to call at Antigua every fortnight, including tomorrow (February 2), until the ship relocates to the Mediterranean in April.
Instead, the vessel will call at Nevis for the rest of the season.
No decision has been made about next winter’s cruises, which start in November and are still scheduled to include a visit to Antigua.
Star Clippers has since been reported to have held talks with tourism chiefs about security on the island.
In a statement at the end of last week, founder and chief executive Mikael Krafft said: “We are taking this decision after much deliberation, and we will continue to monitor the security situation in Antigua and evaluate our options for next winter season regarding returning to the island.”
Nina Elisabeth Nilssen, 30, a passenger on Royal Clipper, was found dead on January 19 on a trail just off the island’s Pigeon Point Beach. She had been attending a barbecue and had strayed from her group. According to the Caribarena website, her killer has been arrested.
No other cruiselines have announced itinerary changes due to the incident.
