ETC to make its presence felt

www.englishtourism.org.uk and staff will be on hand to explain to visitors the new functions of the ETC which has taken on a more strategic role than the former ETB, providing guidelines and research for the tourism industry.

The ETC will also be presenting three seminars at BTTF. These will cover the latest domestic tourism trends, the promotion of England in the New millennium and the effects of red tape on tourism businesses and what is being done to help them.

As part of its new role, the ETC has recently appointed Andrew Duff to the new position of head of tourism technology with responsibility for looking at ways in which the industry can capitalise on new technology.

In particular, he will be looking at how companies can develop new ways of doing business in the digital economy through the use of Information Technology, the internet and e-commerce.

His role will be to encourage more businesses to go on-line, while also getting them to make good use of technology and he will be responsible for promoting best practice throughout the industry. Duff, who joined the ETC from the Northumbria Tourist Board where he was development director, will also lead England’s Tourism Technology Working Group and work with the British Tourist Authority and the regional tourist boards to develop tourism product databases for England.

n The Heart of England Jazz Band will perform on the main stage at BTTF at 1.45pm on March 22.

This will be followed by the launch of the Celebrating Arts, Crafts and Industrial Heritage campaign on the Heart of England Tourist Board’s stand at 2.30pm.

A NEW face in English tourism, the English Tourism Council, will be exhibiting at the British Travel Trade Fair for the first time this year.

Launched in July last year, the ETC has replaced the English Tourist Board as the lead body for tourism in England.

ETC brand services manager Jackie McGreevy said: “The whole of our stand at BTTF will be about the role of the ETC and how it differs from the English Tourist Board.

“As the ETC is moving away from destination marketing, a role that will be left to the regional tourist boards, it will not be promoting any particular aspect of English tourism at the event. Instead, it will be providing literature and information about the ETC and its new functions.”

The ETC’s stand will be filled with literature for the trade about the organisation, including an array of new publications, business information leaflets and the council’s new industry newsletter NewsETCetera.

Visitors will also be able to access the ETC Web site www.englishtourism.org.uk and staff will be on hand to explain to visitors the new functions of the ETC which has taken on a more strategic role than the former ETB, providing guidelines and research for the tourism industry.
