Star column: Kimberley Walsh on her first cruise

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh took her first cruise earlier this year, sailing from Fort Lauderdale to the Caribbean on board Crown Princess.

The singer told Travel Weekly what she made of the experience:

This was the first time my family and I had been on a cruise so we were all very excited. I had heard amazing things about ships that had water parks, cinemas and miniature golf courses, so I was intrigued to know what our ship was like.

The ship was classically beautiful with a timeless feel to it. Being in the Piazza makes you feel like you could be on a glamorous 1940s movie set.

Unfortunately, due to my busy work schedule I treated the cruise as a chance to recharge my batteries and relax in the sun after our bitter British winter. For this reason, we didn’t go on any excursions although I know there were many on offer ranging from golf, to swimming with dolphins.

The check-in experience was very straightforward and quick. The destinations we visited – Grand Cayman, Roatan, Cozumel and Princess Cays – were all quite similar and had a very American feel to them.

We ate in The Crown Grill quite a few times as it was so good. I acquired a new found love for steaks, which is not something I would usually order but it was amazing.

The upper deck and private pool in the Sanctuary were definite highlights. The weather was not on my side during the trip though – if there could have been a way for Princess Cruises to change the weather then my trip would have been perfect!

My mum has already recommended the ship to her friends and I would definitely try a cruise again.

If I were an agent selling this product I would certainly stress the quality of the food and service. The food was very fresh and well prepared and there was always someone nearby to help at all times.
