Flights to Greece disrupted by anti-austerity strikes

Flights in and out of Greece are subject to cancellation today as protests against planned spending cuts and tax rises continue.

Transport workers joined the 48-hour general strike yesterday, putting a halt to all flights in and out the country at midnight last night. Trains and ferries in Greece are also at a standstill.

British Airways is advising those travelling to Athens today to check the status of the flight before leaving home.

Austerity measures planned in return for a 110bn euro (£95bn) international rescue package for the debt-struck economy have sparked widespread anger.

The Greek parliament is to vote on the measures by the end of the week.
