The traditional pre-Travel Convention football match is being transformed into a six-a-side tournament this year.
Eight teams will participate with kick-off in Malta on October 18.Teams to be entered pay a fee of £80.
Teams will be split into two leagues and 15 minute matches will determine the winners of each league. The winners and runners up from each league will then go on to play each other in two semi-finals followed by the grand final.
The tournament will take place at Luxul Stadium on the convention host island of Malta, with facilities such as a sports bar. YouTravel is a co-sponsor and organiser of the tournament.
Sales and marketing director Paul Riches said: “The competition has become increasingly popular over the last few years with more and more people wanting to play.
“Now with a six-a-side tournament comprising of eight teams we can get a lot more people playing and have a really good competition.”
Co-sponsor and organiser is C&M Travel Recruitment, whose managing director Angus Chisholm said: “We hope to attract even more spectators and create an even better atmosphere than before.
“The event has become more and more popular over the last few years and we wanted to be more inclusive. This format means we can now get up to 64 players involved which is fantastic.
“Every team will get a minimum of 45 minutes playing time and more if they progress into the semis and the final.”
During the tournament there will be some fundraising activities for the ABTA Benevolent Fund.
