Caribbean hotel prices unchanged despite $15 million refurb

Agents have until the end of the year to take advantage of current pricing at the Rendezvous hotel in St Lucia.

The boutique property for couples has reopened following a four-month $15 million refurbishment. However, an accompanying 15% price increase will not be introduced until January 2011.

Andrew Barnard, the marketing director of Sunswept Resorts which owns the hotel, said the discrepancy came about after Sunswept decided to push ahead with an upgrade of the property earlier this year when prices for 2010 had already been set.

He said: “Agents can take advantage of this as the refurbishment has led to the property improving without the prices increasing yet.

“The hotel has had a full makeover in the public areas and that’s because I want to drive the upper market business into Rendezvous. My intention over the next 36 months is to really drive it upmarket into the four and five star realms.”

Barnard said as well as the refurbishment of the public areas, including bars and restaurants, a new gym, yoga deck and boardwalk have been added as well as a 150-metre-long river pool.

He added prices for the property are expected to rise by a further 15% to 20% at the start of 2012.

Barnard added new themed months are also being added at Rendezvous’ sister property Le Sport, also in St Lucia. Following the success of Yoga June, which saw the hotel achieve a 92% occupancy rate as additional yoga instructors flew in to help teach guests, a second yoga month is being introduced in October.

Meanwhile, the property will also relax its ban on guests under the age of 18 next year when it introduces Family August which will allow guests as young as 16 to check in as part of larger family groups.

Barnard said: “If a family books a room then their family and friends can come at a reduced rate. August is a very hard month in the Caribbean and this is a way of countering that.”
