Costa del Sol hotel explosion injures four Brits

Four British holidaymakers have been injured after a water pipe exploded at a hotel in the Costa del Sol.

Hundreds of British tourists were staying at the three-star Hotel Globales Cortijo Blanco in Marbella at the time of the incident yesterday morning (Monday), according to reports.

Carol Gardener, 53, was passing the hotel when she was injured by the blast while three others were also hurt.

The pipe was on the outside of the hotel and the damage caused by the explosion was limited, a member of staff said.

Emergency services attended the scene and police are investigating the incident.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm four British nationals were caught up in the explosion at Hotel Globales. All have received hospital treatment. Consular assistance is being provided.

“Three are being treated for minor injuries. One is seriously hurt, and that is Carol Gardener aged 53.”

Gardener was taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital and was later transferred to the Carlos Haya Regional University Hospital in Malaga.
