Travellers hit by French workers strike

Travellers to France face transport chaos today due to a nationwide strike set to hit public transport and air traffic.

Hundreds of thousands of private and public sector workers are expected to walk out in a 24-hour action in protest against proposals to raise the retirement age.

Only up to half of all inter-city and local train services are expected to run today although Eurostar trains between France and London should operate normally.

Airlines have been requested by the country’s civil aviation authority to cut Paris flights by a quarter.

Air France said it would slash short and medium-haul flights into and out of the capital by up to 90%, with long-haul flights remaining largely unaffected.
