An MP has called for an urgent meeting with Co-op bosses over concerns of job losses in her constituency following the announcement of the merger between Thomas Cook and The Co-operative Travel.
Joan Walley, the Labour MP for Stoke North, is becoming increasingly concerned that up to 250 members of staff working at The Co-operative Travel’s headquarters in Burslem in her constituency, could be out of a job as the firm’s headquarters are moved to Peterborough.
She is now hoping to meet with Co-op bosses over the plans which will affect one of Burslem’s biggest employers.
Walley said: “Today’s breaking news is of concern. And I shall want assurances that everything is being done to keep as many jobs as possible in Burslem.” She said Stoke was “particularly vulnerable” to the economic recession and cuts.
