French strikes to cause travel disruption

Travellers to France face major disruption today (Tuesday) due to the fourth day of industrial action in a month.

Half of flights to and from Paris Orly airport and one in three at Charles de Gaulle and Beauvais have been cancelled due to walkouts by airport workers in a row over pension rights.

Eurostar trains between Paris and London are due to operate normally but just one in three TGV high-speed trains is expected to run. The Paris metro is expected to be also to be badly hit in the transport workers strike.

Unions have raised the stakes with threats to prolong the strikes beyond today and have called for a further day of demonstrations on Saturday.
