Lufthansa sees profits soar €386m

Lufthansa has posted a nine-month operating profit of €612 million, a gain of €386 million from the same period in 2009.

Net profit for the nine-month period grew to €524 million from just €31 million a year earlier. Sales rose by a quarter over the same period last year to €20.2 billion and the group raised its outlook for 2010 operating profit.

“The executive board has revised its expectations for earnings upwards and now anticipates that the operating result for the full year will exceed the €800 million mark,” a statement said.

“The nine-month earnings reflect both the measures undertaken in the group to reduce costs and the gratifying pace of demand in the third quarter, particularly in the freight and intercontinental passenger businesses.”
