Matt Cheevers joins Youtravel.com

Former Teletext Holidays boss Matt Cheevers has joined Youtravel.com in the newly-created role of development director.

Cheevers, who joined the bed bank this week, will report to group managing director Graham Nichols and will be based in youtravel.com’s offices in Surrey.

His appointment comes as the companies eyes expansion in the UK and overseas.

Cheevers was formerly managing director of Teletext Holidays and head of holidays at lastminute.com, most recently he undertook a number of consultancy projects in the travel industry.

In the newly created role, Cheevers becomes a member of the youtravel.com senior management team which includes Nichols, founder and chief executive John Kent, group finance director Haris Stavrinoudakis, and sales and marketing director Paul Riches. Niels Andersen remains chairman of the group.

Nichols said: “I am delighted to welcome Matt onboard. We’re entering an exciting time in the development of the company as we start our fourth year of trading. His expertise within third party supply and brand partnerships will prove invaluable as we seek to expand our reach in the UK as well as into our international markets.”

Cheevers added: “I’m looking forward to working with the team at youtravel.com in order to re-evaluate the brand to help move the company into its next phase.”

Youtravel.com has been contemplating its future since the injection of new capital in May 2010 when it secured new funding.  A new company under the control of its founder and chief executive John Kent and His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Saeed Al Nahayan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi, acquired Barclays Bank PLC shareholding in youtravel.com.

Nichols added: “The Abu Dhabi funding and the appointment of Matt puts us in a great position to move forward with our growth plans in the coming months and years.”
