A cruise line equivalent of having a take-away meal delivered is being introduced by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.
A four course meal comprising of a starter, salad, main course and dessert will be served to passengers in their cabins
The service is aimed at those wanting to enjoy a quiet dinner in their cabin, watching a DVD, or relaxing in the privacy of their own space, as an alternative to a more sociable dining experience.
The in-cabin dinner service will not carry any extra charge and will be offered in addition to the existing room service initially on longer cruises operated by Balmoral and Black Watch from January 5.
If successful, the ‘Evening In’ initiative will be introduced to other ships in the fleet in due course, the company said.
Fred Olsen believes the service, offering a more extensive menu than what is available from room service, will be popular when passengers who have spent a long day ashore or have an early start for an excursion the following morning.
Marketing director Nigel Lingard said: “I am confident that this new service will be very popular, and many people will enjoy the occasional relaxed night in, as a change from the superb dining room service we already offer.”
