First Choice agent Emily Fitch will never forget her first booking – she ended up calling an ambulance for her client.
Emily, 22, was working for Thomson in Spalding, Lincolnshire when she booked a customer’s regular 14-night break in Benidorm, but on this occasion he didn’t get a chance to head for the sun after having a heart attack when he came in to pick up his tickets.
Fortunately, he made a full recovery and was soon back in the Costas, and since then Emily has gone on to work for two other Thomson shops before moving to the First Choice shop in King’s Lynn where she is assistant manager.
Emily is the first of 12 Travel Weekly Cover Stars who won a competition to feature on our front covers throughout the year.
She joined 11 other winners for their makeover and photo shoot at Bicester Village last month, and said she had a wonderful time.
“I’m really shy, but my boyfriend Elliott persuaded me to enter the competition and I have to admit I cried when I found out I’d won!” she says.
“I get Travel Weekly every week at home, and I just thought it looked like an awesome competition with the chance to win a cover shoot, a place on a fam with One Stop Touring Shop and tickets to some amazing events.
“Our day out at Bicester Village was even better than I expected. We were really looked after and our style consultant Fiona was really nice.”
Emily started her career in travel as an apprentice after completing an NVQ in travel and tourism at college.
She deals with all kinds of holidays, but admits she likes booking weddings as they are particularly satisfying.
“I always wanted to work in travel, as I loved going on holiday and wanted to help other people go on theirs,” she says.
“I’ve done four wedding bookings and they’re great as you feel you’ve helped arrange something that will be memorable for the rest of their lives.”
