Click Travel boss urges trade to tap into graduate talent

Click Travel managing director Simon McLean is urging travel companies to tap into the graduate market for ideas or risk falling behind competitors.

The travel management company boss warned companies not to underestimate fresh talent as it launched its own an intern recruitment programme for creative and IT staff.

The first position it hopes to fill is for a software engineer to gain new ideas to improve its online presence.

McLean said: “Running an intern programme is a great way for companies to stay relevant, especially when it comes to the fast moving technology market. Those that fall behind run the very real risk of losing touch with their customers.”

Recent research from the Higher Education Careers Services Unit placed IT and computer science graduates at the top of the pile for unemployment six months after leaving university.

McLean added: “Many employers forget the mutually beneficial rewards of offering an internship programme, but those that wake up to the possibilities will notice the difference that young people can make to their business.”
