Princess Cruises makes onboard savings package permanent

Princess Cruises has made its onboard savings offer permanent after more than 60% of passengers selected the package during wave.

The Princess Plus package was previously only available until March 2 and allows passengers to pay £35 per person per day in return for premium drinks, Wi-Fi and gratuities.

The add-on would normally cost more than £70 for passengers.

Premium drinks include cocktails, wine, beer, spirits, coffee and tea. A daily limit on alcoholic beverages will apply.

Passengers who prefer soft drinks or are under the drinking age can order drinks like fruit juices, mocktails and smoothies.

Princess Cruises offers Wi-Fi as part of the package as more Princess ships are upgraded to Medallion Net, the line’s Wi-Fi at sea.

According to Princess Cruises’ vice president UK & Europe Tony Roberts, more than 60% of passengers have selected Princess Plus since December.

He said: “When we introduced this into the market, we had not done anything like this before.

“We genuinely wanted to see how this went and how it was received. It was launched as part of our wave offer and it has been incredibly popular.

“Over 60% of passengers have selected the package. We always thought that it was going to be successful but we wanted to trial it through wave.

“The demand for Princess Plus has been phenomenal and shows no sign of slowing down.”

He also added: “We would like to thank the trade for their amazing support which has allowed us to extend the package.

“We are constantly striving to enhance the onboard experience for our guests and by introducing the package as a permanent fixture we are giving people the chance to make the most of their holiday while saving money at the same time.”

Roberts said people were taking a “bit more time” to make a decision about their holiday in light of the global coronavirus outbreak, adding that 2020 Asia bookings were being delayed by 12 months by “a lot” of customers.

Diamond Princess was quarantined in Japan for 16 days after a passenger who had sailed on board was later diagnosed with coronavirus.

All sailings on Diamond Princess have been cancelled until April 20, while all Asia departures on Sapphire Princess and Majestic Princess have been pulled.

Roberts said Princess had seen strong demand for sailings in Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska and the US East Coast.

Prices for the seven-night Spain and France cruise on 3,080-passenger Crown Princess (pictured), departing Southampton on October 30, 2020, start from £774. Price includes the Princess Plus package.
