Princess Cruises reintroduces £1 deposit day

The operator of the cruise ship which was placed under quarantine in Japan after an outbreak of coronavirus is introducing a £1 deposit offer in a bid to stimulate bookings.

Princess Cruises is providing the deal for one day only on Thursday (March 5).

The offer applies to all destinations and all ships with cruises departing on or after June 1.

It is the fourth year running the line has made the £1 deposit available and means passengers will have nothing further to pay until their balance due date.

The initiative follows the line making the onboard Princess Plus savings offer permanent after a trail period.

The low-deposit deal includes all of the line’s UK-based ships in 2020 and 2021, which will depart for destinations across northern and southern Europe, as well as round Britain.

UK and Europe vice president Tony Roberts said: “The success of the £1 deposit increases year on year for our agent partners and we are confident that our latest offer will be no exception.

“We would like to thank the trade for their ongoing support of the low deposit day.

“By giving guests the chance to secure a booking for just £1, there has never been a more affordable time to book a holiday.”

Meanwhile, the final passengers and crew disembarked Diamond Princess in Yokohama last week to be repatriated home. The captain was the last to leave the ship.

Diamond Princess was quarantined for 16 days after a passenger who had sailed on board was later diagnosed with coronavirus.

All sailings on Diamond Princess have been cancelled until April 20, while all Asia departures on Sapphire Princess and Majestic Princess have been withdrawn.

A British man was the first UK citizen to die from coronavirus after being infected on Diamond Princess.

More than 700 people contracted the virus during the lengthy quarantine with at last five deaths.
