Sunvil unveils charter flights to Portugal’s Alentejo

Sunvil will launch the first UK charter flights to Portugal’s Alentejo region in May.

The operator hailed Alentejo’s coastline as “reminiscent of the Algarve 40 years ago”.

The operator has chartered a 49-seat BMI jet for the weekly flight from Heathrow to the city of Beja, where the former military airport will open to civil traffic in April.

Beja lies south of Unesco World Heritage Site Evora in the rural, southern central region of Portugal between the Algarve and Lisbon.

The journey by road from the city to the coast, the Costa Azul, takes one hour, 15 minutes.

Sunvil describes the region as ideal for driving holidays and includes car hire in the price of its  pousada itineraries.

The programme will run from May 22 to October 9, with prices starting from £496 for seven nights’ bed and breakfast at the four-star Hotel Evora in the city of the same name, based on two sharing. Flights operate on Sundays and seat-only fares start from £198 return.
