Bomb scare false alarm on SriLankan Airlines flight

A British man accused of sparking a bomb scare on a SriLankan Airlines flight has been released by police.

The unnamed elderly passenger was detained yesterday after a false alarm aboard a Colombo-London flight that made an emergency stop in the Maldives.

He was released by Maldives police after what was described as a misunderstanding by cabin crew on the flight.

A Maldives police spokesman reportedly told news agency AFP: “It was a case of miscommunication between the elderly British passenger and the airline crew.”

The passenger had alerted the crew to a “disturbance in the plane” and the crew had thought he was raising a bomb scare, he added.
