Thomas Cook unveils London Olympics package prices

Thomas Cook will announce details of short-break packages and prices to see the London Olympics today as the organisers of the Games publish the schedule of events.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog) will publish the date, time and venue of every one of the 640-plus sessions across 26 Olympic sports scheduled for London 2012 this morning.

The competition schedule will appear exactly one month before the ticket-application process begins.

An official London 2012 partner, Thomas Cook will be the only company allowed to package and sell tickets to the Games in the UK.

Tickets for the Olympics, and Paralympics two weeks later, will be sold as part of more than 300,000 short-break packages. They cannot legally be offered for resale by another retailer or by a purchaser.

Most tickets for the Olympics will be available through the Locog website, london2012.com, with successful applicants chosen by lottery from the millions who have applied.

By contrast, whoever is first through the door of a Thomas Cook agency, on the phone to a call centre or online on the day, will be able to buy a package including tickets for an event. The short breaks will include tickets for everything from the opening ceremony to the athletics finals.

Thomas Cook expects queues outside its shops when the tickets go on sale. The only other tickets available will be for corporate hospitality, charged at a premium and sold through a single supplier.

Thomas Cook London 2012 partnership managing director Stephen Vaughan said: “We expect to be inundated.”
