Monarch boosts summer capacity from Luton by 100,000

Monarch has added more than 100,000 seats from Luton to Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Turkey this summer in light of “soaring demand from customers”.

The expansion in the scheduled programme, announced this week, will mean 108,500 more seats from Luton to Gibraltar, Malaga, Alicante, Majorca, Faro, Dalaman and Bodrum.

There will be an additional 11,000 seats from Manchester with an extra weekly flight to Larnaca, and another 16,000 from Gatwick through the use of bigger aircraft on services to Alicante, Faro, Lanzarote, Larnaca, Majorca and Malaga – adding more than 135,000 seats on 14 routes in total.

Monarch will add four flights a week from Luton to Gibraltar, meaning 11 in all with double-daily services on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There will be an additional two flights a week from Luton to Alicante, Malaga, Majorca and Dalaman, and one extra to Faro.

That will make Luton’s Alicante and Faro services daily, and take Malaga to double daily on Monday and Saturday, Majorca to eight flights a week, Dalaman to five and Bodrum to three.

All the flights are scheduled from May 27 and available for booking now, with one-way fares from £40.99.

Monarch Airlines managing director Kevin George said: “Bookings for summer are already up 27% compared with the same time last year, so we are delighted to respond by adding seats.”

The carrier reported its highest-ever January passenger numbers and has already increased its April flight programme from Gatwick and Manchester to Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.
