Malaysia’s former international trade and industry minister is due to be appointed as non-executive independent chairman of AirAsia X as it moves towards an Initial Public Offering.
Y.B. Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz is expected to be appointed at a board meeting on Thursday after earlier accepting an offer to take up the post from the low cost carrier’s board.
AirAsia X intends to capitalise on Y.B. Tan Sri Rafidah’s extensive international expertise as Malaysia’s longest serving trade and industry minister as the carrier considers an IPO in the “near future”. AirAsia X is the long-haul, low cost affiliate of AirAsia, Malaysia’s largest airline by market capitalisation.
The board is chaired by Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, who said: “It is an honour and privilege for me to hand over and make way for someone of Y.B. Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz’s stature, and we are confident that under her chairmanship, AirAsia X will continue to grow into a Malaysian global champion in aviation.”
