King World Travel co-founder Tom King unlikely to return to travel

Former King World Travel owner Tom King is looking at ventures outside of the travel industry after the business was bought by resort company Minoan Group.

King set up the Scottish travel agency chain with business partner Linda Boyd 25 years ago and has a career in travel spanning 34 years.

He left King World Travel as soon as it was sold last month for £410,000. Under his exit agreement, he cannot set up a rival travel business.

King would not say which industries he might work in instead of travel. “I have no plans to go back into travel. I have a few other interests and have been looking at other opportunities but there is nothing definite as yet,” he said.

He admitted he would miss working in the trade. “Over the years travel has been such a big part of my life,” he added.

The agency will form part of a new portfolio of UK travel businesses under former MyTravel chief executive Duncan Wilson. Last week King World Travel became an exclusive franchisee of online cruise travel agency Cruise118.
