Bookabed has automatically cancelled all accommodation and transfers for arrivals up to May 31.
Only villas and groups are excluded from the bedbank’s blanket cancellation policy, it said in a memo to travel agents on Friday May 1.
The move is designed “to help improve the process of cancellations”, Bookabed said.
Agents were asked not to email the bedbank about any cancellations up to May 31, and were told cancellations made for arrivals after May 31 were subject to normal cancellation rules.
Bookabed said it would try to reinstate booking for customers still wishing to travel before May 31 if agents requested it.
Refunds for flights booked on lowcost carriers via Bookabed will be processed when the bedbnk receives the money from the airline.
Agents were urged to contact Bookabed’s flights team for affected bookings of long-haul flights.
The letter said: “We will review the situation on an ongoing basis based on the situation at the time in our top destinations and the governments travel advice. Doing this will hopefully ease the workload on your staff.”
