P&O cancels Adonia agent preview

P&O Cruises has been forced to cancel a travel agent preview of new ship Adonia on Friday after the ship’s arrival into Southampton was delayed.

The 710-passenger vessel had been undergoing refurbishment at a shipyard in the Bahamas ahead of its delivery to the UK company.

But the ship, formerly Royal Princess, was delayed in its departure from the yard.

That, combined with what the company described as “adverse weather conditions” on crossing the Atlantic, meant that the arrival to its UK home port has been disrupted.

“As a result, the inaugural activities scheduled to take place on Friday 20 May have unfortunately been cancelled,” P&O Cruises said.

“This delayed arrival will not have any impact on the naming day and the ceremony will be proceeding as planned.”

Adonia is due to be named in Southampton on Saturday by Dame Shirley Bassey.
