TELETEXT may feel it is at the cutting edge of technology with the imminent arrival of its digital service.
But things went strangely awry when Backchat paid a visit to its HQ in Fulham to view said techno-wonder.
Granted, the front page, with all its colours and different fonts, looked ever so much better than the normal clumsy, blocky text that we are used to on our analogue screens but sadly, that was almost all Backchat saw.
When the extremely pleasant PR lady for Teletext tried to show what the new service was really capable of (control over pages, easier navigation round the system etc) a glitch naughtily appeared and the screen froze.
Blushes all round but assurances from the techno-heads in the background that “it was working perfectly earlier”.
Technology marches onwards but the excuses remain the same …
