The number of flights scheduled to depart from UK airports in July is down by almost a third on the same month last year.
Latest data shows a total 26,111 flights – a 31% drop on July 2019 when 37,653 were scheduled.
The figures have been published as airlines seek to resume operations in the hope that travel restrictions will be lifted following three months of Covid-19 lockdown.
EasyJet has the most capacity set for the month at 13,453 flights, representing 6% year-on-year growth, according to travel industry data analytics firm Cirium.
But British Airways flight numbers are down 74% with 3,367 flights and Virgin Atlantic with just 386 flights, a decline of 63%, reflecting a concentration on long-haul routes.
Gatwick has the most departing flights at 7,088, although this represents an 18% decline on July last year.
The slump is greater at Heathrow where the level of flights has dropped by 68% to 3,253.
The most popular destinations from UK airports are Palma, Amsterdam, Malaga, Faro and Alicante – but all with double digital capacity falls.
Countries suffering the steepest declines include Finland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Belgium with lesser drops to Italy, France, Spain and Greece, according to the Cirium statistics.
