Spain leading the way on winter bookings, says Youhotels.com

Forward sales for winter trips to Spain are showing “significant” year-on-year growth, independent bed bank youhotels.com claims.

Spain has led the way for the accommodation provider this summer with latest figures showing growth of 18% year-on-year for Majorca, 36% for Ibiza, 28% for Fuerteventura, and 38% for the Costa Dorada.

Sales for Costa Blanca are up 47% for the coming winter compared to the same time last year, Majorca sales are up more than 10% and bookings for Costa Dorada are more than double 2010’s levels, according to the company.

The swing towards the Western Mediterranean away from the destinations such as Turkey and Egypt has led to a 12% rise in average booking values.

Head of UK sales Liz Garfield said: “The boom in Turkey and Egypt over the past few years has been well-documented as British travellers took advantage of currency fluctuations and cheaper hotel rates.

“Spain has seen a real resurgence in popularity this year as customers have returned to the western Mediterranean resorts in droves – and this is set to continue into the winter months too it seems.

“We’re expecting to see even more growth for the Canary Islands in particular as we get to late August, early September and people are back from their summer holidays.

“Winter sales for Malta are also looking very strong with huge growth for St Julian’s, Sliema and Mellieha specifically.”
