Ten travel firms make Sunday Times Top Track

Ten companies from the travel and tourism sector feature in the Sunday Times Top Track 250 list of the UK’s most successful mid-market private companies.

Tour operator Lotus Group was 96th in the seventh annual Top Track 250 league table supplement published in The Sunday Times.

Gatwick airport rose one place from 16th to 15th, Travelodge was up from 71st to 67th and travel management company Portman Travel was 130th.

Southall Travel has been listed for the second year running, ranked 141 in the list up from 148 last year with sales of £243 million for the year ending March 2011, compared to £203 million the previous year.

Managing director Kuljinder Bahia said: “I’m extremely proud to be  one of the very few travel agents to make the list and it is a great accolade for us. I’m thankful for our strong relationship with our suppliers and to our customers, many of whom book with us time and time again.

“The economy means trading continues to be difficult for the whole industry but we have a talented team in place and we continue to invest in new technology, broadening our product range and call centre productivity.”

Other travel firms in the 250 were (with last year’s ranking if there is one):

Associated British Ports 39th, no listing last year
Center Parks, 108th, from 94th
Shearings, 205th
Park Resorts, 244th from 215
