Brits believed to be caught in Kenya bandit attack

A British couple are believed to have been hurt in an attack on a tour vehicle by bandits in Isiolo in Kenya.

Early reports say the driver of the vehicle has been killed and a couple, of either British or Swiss origin, injured as the van headed to Shaba National Reserve.

The bandits are understood to be from a neighbouring community. The attack happened in an area heavily guarded by armed police officers.

It is the third report of a violent attack on tourists in Kenya in the last two months. In September, a British couple were attacked by suspected pirates from Somalia at an isolated Kenyan coastal resort, with the husband shot dead and wife kidnapped.

In October a French disabled woman was kidnapped and has since died. In October, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office changed its advice and warned British travellers away from coastal regions within 150km of the Somali border.

Kenya Tourist Board said it was aware of the latest incident but will not release a statement until tomorrow morning at the earliest.
