Tui has offered assistance to “local communities and partners” affected by an earthquake that struck Turkey’s Aegean coast, north of the Greek island of Samos, on Friday.
The operator said on social media that no guests or staff were harmed during the 7.0 magnitude quake, which had accounted for at least 26 deaths by Saturday morning.
Tui said on Friday evening: “Our thoughts at Tui are with the people of the Greek and Turkish regions Eastern Aegean and Izmir affected by the earthquake earlier today.
“Tui‘s guests and colleagues in the region were unharmed, luckily, but we are offering help to the local communities and our partners.”
More than 800 people are reported to have been injured in the earthquake, which triggered a small tsunami.
Geological fault-lines mean earthquakes are common in the region, and more than 30 people were killed in January when an earthquake struck Sivrice in Turkey’s eastern Elazig province.
