Cunard Line and P&O Cruises have both reinforced the need for passengers to pay close attention to safety drills in the wake of the Costa Concordia tragedy.
Both companies posted similar messages on their Facebook pages today addressing the issue.
“International maritime law dictates that passenger drills must be conducted within 24 hours of sailing, however we always conduct our drills prior to sailing and we encourage our guests to pay close attention to these drills,” Cunard said.
“We have stringent measures in place to ensure your safety, which include rigorous crew training, regular inspections, and advanced navigation technology.
“We meet or exceed all international safety requirements and have an excellent record of safe operation.
“Incidents such as the recent tragedy are a rare occurrence and cruising continues to be a safe holiday choice. We hope that this update reassures you and if you have any questions we will do our best to answer them all.”
