Julie Gibson to join Midcounties Co-op

Midcounties Co-operative Travel has appointed Julie Gibson as head of commercial and marketing.

Gibson is the latest senior executive to move from The Co-operative Travel Group to Midcounties following the joint venture with Thomas Cook.

She will report to Alistair Rowland, the group general manager of travel services, and general manager of distribution Sue Reid when she joins the company on January 30.

Gibson said: “Midcounties Co-operative Travel has exciting and ambitious plans. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to play my part in developing this dynamic business so we can deliver the best deals for our customers.

“I held the commercial role in my previous post and I am looking forward to using my experience and contacts in my new challenge, along with taking responsibility for the marketing strategy to drive our business forward.”

Midcounties said its new senior team would expand the business as a “truly independent travel business” after Thomas Cook, The Co-operative Group and Midlands Co-operative entered into a joint retail travel venture.

Chief executive Ben Reid said: “Julie’s appointment is the final piece in the jigsaw. We now have a strong, focused team in place to realise our ambitions and develop our business in line with our commitment to independence and service.

“Even in a tough market we are confident we can deliver significant growth online, in branches and through our expanding home worker network. Our ambition is to be the best independent retailer in the country with an unrivalled reputation for customer service and expertise and with co-operative values at its core.”
