ATC demands airlines define commission levels clearly

ADVANTAGE Travel Centres business travel agents are calling for clarification from airlines over the level of commission they are paying.

Business development manager Norman Gage said members are getting confused because different airlines pay different levels of commission and often have individual deals with some agents.

He said:”Agents are complaining that an airline such as KLM is paying one basic level to one group of agents, another basic level to another group, and a third level to yet another lot of agents.

“There really does seem to be a muddy, grey area. Maybe that’s the way the airlines want it, but agents are not happy.

“They are wondering when they are doing ticketing, reporting or sorting out their accounts whether they are claiming the right commission level?

“My fear is that agents could be losing money, or even worse, they could be claiming a higher commission now than they are actually entitled to and at a later date get a debit note from the airline saying they have been overpaid.

“People need to look and make sure that they are getting it right. They don’t want to get a surprise in six months’ time.”
