Wigmore Holidays and Travel has added the resort of Bizerte to its programme for next year. Bizerte is situated 1hr north of Tunis and has a very strong French influence. A four-night stay at a four-star hotel Bizerte Resort costs around £369, including flights to Tunis, transfers and half board accommodation.
Director of marketing and communications Kader Chelbi said: “Bizerte is not touristy at all, it is quite unspoilt. It still has a very strong French influence – Tunisia was granted independence in 1956, but the French kept Bizerte as a military base until 1961. The resort has good beaches and two or three really good fish restaurants. It is a beautiful area, very green, with oak forests. It is near the green wetland area of lake Ichkeul, an important stop for migratory birds, which makes the area interesting for birdwatchers.”
